A scenario by Murder Maker
The Obsidian Palace, Founding Night. Before the assembled dynasty, the Imperial Oracle was to read the year's fates from the Fate-Chronicle — the living book whispered to dictate every ending at court. Instead the seer lies dead over her own book, its final page torn away and her silver quill bone-dry — and the page before it foretells her death this very night. With the last leaf gone, no fate is fixed: every name the book had condemned now holds a motive and a clean slate. The palace is sealed until the bells of midnight. Before they ring, the court must name the hand that unwrote Fate.

Grand Empress Maelis Calderys
Suspect
The dynastic matriarch, reigning bloodline head, and holder of the Chronicle's commission. Serene, unassailable, the living keystone of a thousand-year mandate. She grieves the Oracle with perfect composure — but…
Crown Heir Évrard Calderys
Suspect
The Crown Heir — dutiful, upright, and visibly boxed in by a book that could confirm or strip his succession with a single line. Betrothed to Lady Sidonie. Everyone assumes he had the most to gain from a torn page.
Prince Corwin Calderys
Suspect
A prince of the cadet branch — charming, ambitious, and quietly furious at a lifetime of being second. With the named succession suddenly voided by the torn page, the throne is contestable, and he is smiling more than…
Consort Ilse Verrault
Suspect
A powerful imperial consort with her own court faction and the bearing of a woman who has survived every reign by outliving her enemies. Cool, watchful, and unloved by the matriarch.
Lord Chancellor Aurel Daubigny
Suspect
The Lord Chancellor — the realm's real hand, a career statesman who has served three reigns and outmaneuvered them all. Precise, patient, and never quite where you expect him.
Lady Sidonie Auvenne
Suspect

Alchemist Séverine Achard
Suspect
The court alchemist — apothecary, perfumer, and quiet supplier of the palace's rare essences, including the resins that bind the Chronicle's ink. Because she knows every toxin at court, she is the first name whispered…

Astronomer Noralie Vfeld
Witness
The Oracle's young apprentice star-reader, who tended the Star Tower and transcribed at the seer's side. She found the body. Grief-struck, watchful, and guarding something she will not yet name.
Spymaster Cyprien Vaudreuil
Detective
The Master of Whispers — the crown's investigator, answerable to the throne alone. It falls to him to seal the palace, gather the evidence, and name the killer before the bells of midnight ring.
No blade, no known poison — the Oracle simply ended. What if the murder weapon was the very ink she wrote with?
A torn page, an unfixed throne, and a dozen claimants who each believe the crown was always meant to be theirs.
Someone has been writing prophecies that were never seen. When fate can be forged, who needs a seer?
The doom hanging over the heir's betrothed — was it ever Heaven's sentence, or one careful man's signature?
An old vial, an old crime, and a body it was never meant to lie beside.
She thought she knew every ending — until the author changed the script from the inside.
Everyone is hunting the page the Oracle tore away. No one has asked what she wrote on it.
